Daily reading for March 27 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Discipline “Discipline means to follow a way of life. What did we follow?” Don Russell – Sept. 28, 2007.

We followed our own self-will. We did our own thing. We were out of control. There was only chaos and disorder in our lives. We would not ask for help or any direction that might help us. We became phony because we could not practice what we preached to others. We did not want to follow rules and regulations. We would fly by the seat of our pants and cause stress and distress in the lives of the people we were supposed to love. We followed our own laws that we made up in the moment hoping that it suited our situation at the time. There was trouble everywhere we went and there was no escape from our disease.

We needed to come into recovery to learn how to live a new way of life. We needed help to bring order out of our disorder. Our program offers us a solution to help us get back on track. Three simple things: ask, listen, and do as we are told.

My commitment today is to practice being disciplined by asking, listening, and doing what I am told!

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
