Daily reading for March 29 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Respect “Don’t make fun of me, don’t embarrass me, and don’t laugh at me as if I’m nothing! We don’t expect people to love us. We need to be treated with respect.” Fr. Paul – Sept. 5, 2007.

As alcoholics we condemned ourselves. We have been condemned, ignored, and snubbed by other people. There is something in us that rebels at that. We have a lot of hate and resentments inside of us. We hated it if we could not do something that people expected of us. We could not handle that. We had a lot of anger, resentment, self-pity, and there was a war going on inside of us. We felt condemned. We felt that we had failed and that we were not good enough.

When we come into recovery we need to feel that we fit in. We need encouragement that we do belong with the others here. We are not dummies or misfits! No matter who we are we all deserve respect.

My commitment today is to treat everyone with respect.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
