Daily reading for April 20 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Decisions “My own decisions were wrong, selfish, or for my own pleasure.” Fr. Paul – March 4, 2009.

From the time we were babies God put in our lives the people that would love us, care for us, know how to care for us and be there for us. Being alcoholic, as we got older, we chose who we wanted to be near, who we wanted to listen to, who meant anything in our lives. This is a serious part of our lives. The people you and I need and the people that need you in their life are either out there or here and we need to believe that and allow it to happen. Look at how many times we were so wrapped up in self that we never heard anything, nothing penetrated, and nothing changed. The opportunities continue where something or someone hits us with that change of heart that takes place in us.

In recovery there is a change of attitude and heart. There is freedom, peace, and gratitude. Every day there can be some growth, some change of heart, and a special feeling of gratitude, joy, and hope.

My commitment today is honesty with myself.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
