Daily reading for May 08 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Being Part of “Everything in an alcoholic pushed people away and prevented me from being part of their lives and prevented them from being part of my life.” Fr. Paul – Dec.10, 2008.

We always thought as we grew up that people expected and demanded too much from us. We did not feel they understood us or really cared. We rebelled inside and did not want to be part of their lives. It became impossible for us to let them be a part of our lives or us to be a part of their lives. We put up walls that prevented us, the alcoholic, from experiencing love. The loneliness, self-will, hates, resentments, and isolation from being part of life and the people that God put in my life, made it impossible to experience faith, trust, love and care. We could not admit anything; that we needed help, that we were wrong, that we had fears, hates, resentments, and jealousies.

My commitment today is to be a part of all the good, to contribute to it, and allow people to be part of what I have to offer them also.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
