Daily reading for July 10 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Belonging “When is the last time we were part of their joy or they be a part of our joy?” Fr. Paul – Aug. 8, 2009.

For the most part we were into ourselves, not part of but apart from. We were apart from people who were part of our lives where we meant something to them and they meant something to us. That is how the disease takes over. They are not important or part of us. We live our life apart from them and do not allow them to be a mother, father, sister, brother, or friend. The disease of self takes over. We lose feelings until we have no feelings and we have to get drunk. Then we take away the freedom of our mother, our father, our spouse. That is right. That is mean, cruel, and stupid! The disease of self is vicious, stupid and so irresponsible.

We know that we hurt others so much that now we want true sobriety, to belong to the living and not the dead, to be part of their lives and let them be part of our life.

My commitment today is to bring joy to the people in my life by belonging.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
