Daily reading for July 03 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Blame/Contempt “Blaming is 100% a part of being an alcoholic. When we think that they deserve every-thing that we give them, that is contempt, and most of us are blind to how serious and terrible that is!” Fr. Paul – July 23, 2008.

We blame others for our decisions. We justify it and we are not flexible with the thought that everything we thought of and did was all our decisions. We react towards other people instead of being able to respond and be there for them. We thought they were below us and they deserved everything that we gave them. That is contempt.

With the disease of alcoholism, we treat people as if they are less than a person, less than a human being, as if they are nothing. There is no heart or feelings in us and we justified every decision, every thought and every feeling. We treated people worse than a dog and justified all our decisions and all our actions.

Today my commitment is to look at my defects and not blame others for the mistakes I made in my life.

Featured Testimonial

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
