Daily reading for April 22 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Respect “Respect! We all need it! To be a child of God, there’s a certain dignity and anything that takes away from this dignity as a person, as a human being, is hurtful and damaging.” Fr. Paul – Sept. 5, 2007.

As alcoholics we did not value people. We expected and demanded too much from people and we blamed them for our problems in life. We stripped many people of their dignity. Today we need people and things happen in our lives that make us feel worthy, give us a certain dignity, and feel dignified. It does not pull us down and we are not hurt by what people either expect or demand of us or the way they talk about us.

We need to make one another feel at home and that they belong as part of the Brentwood family. We have as much a right to be here as anyone else. That is basic to people and it is basic to one another. No one is any better than anybody else. We have the same rights as someone else.

My commitment today is to treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
