Daily reading for February 24 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Trust “We haven’t developed the trust in people, to reach people, to talk to people, to say I’m hurting, I’m in trouble!” Don Russell – Oct. 14, 2009.

As practicing alcoholics we were spiritually blocked and spiritually blind with no hope, no faith and no trust. We had lost faith and trust in ourselves and in the people in our life and they had no faith and trust in us. When we became aware of this we had an overwhelming feeling of being lost. We did not know where to go. We had no joy. We only had emptiness! If we prayed and did not get an answer right away, our faith was gone right there. Our disease is so much self-pity and self-will. We had a people problem and we found ourselves in recovery surrounded by people. When we come to Brentwood we need to talk to people, let them in and come out of ourselves! Faith and trust comes from what you put in and what you get out. We can offer and restore faith in people, then in God and then there is a connection with more people.

My commitment today is to connect with the people that God puts in my life.

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
